Aircontact arranged 4 x B747-200 flights from Izmir, Turkey to Santa Domingo on behalf of WFP. In total 420 metric tons of high energy biscuits was transported in one week. Project manager Daniel Carey travelled immediately to Izmir to supervise loading of the first shipment, before joining first flight.
Well arrived in Santo Domingo, the cargo was shipped by trucks to Port au Prince and surrounding areas. Aircontact’s project manager stayed behind to supervise the rest of operation, which went smoothly due to excellent support from local handling agents at both Izmir and Santo Domingo.

Aircontact also arranged the first flights for the Norwegian Red Cross bound for Haiti. Two Boeing 737-300 combined freight and passenger flights from the Nordic region, arrived as some of the first charters with humanitarian aid for Haiti. Both critical medical supplies and hospital staff were flown in together, which led to field hospitals being operational within a very short period of time.
Along the two Boeing 737-300s, we also operated one Antonov AN-12 cargo aircraft.
