Estonian Air announcing changes in company leadership
Børge Thornbech was the first CEO of Estonian Air after privatisation of the airline, in 1996-2000, and continued in this position since January 2005. Within these past two and a half years the main task for the CEO was to stabilise the company, to form a team of experienced and professional managers, and to work out a new strategy.
„In my opinion the Estonian Air organisation has never been as strong as it is now, especially on the level of competence and experience of the management and top executives. From my point of view the ongoing changes are natural and I am stepping back from the company at the right time, as a part of carefully planned management of changes,“ commented Børge Thornbech.
According to the Chairman of the Supervisory Council of Estonian Air Mr. Olev Schults, building up a new top management team has been a primary task of Børge Thornbech in the environment of increasing competition, and he has carried through that task very well. „The leadership of the company is taken over by Andrus Aljas for whom it will be a good chance and a big challenge to bring, together with the new team, fresh ideas into developing Estonian Air,“ said Olev Schults.
„My biggest challenge is to carry out Estonian Air’s new strategy and to make the company more open and customer friendly. Estonian Air is ready for stable development – within the last year the management has been completed with new experienced people, our capacity and fleet have been enlarged,“ Andrus Aljas.
Andrus Aljas (37) has a degree in economics from Tallinn Technical University and has been working as the CFO of Estonian Air since May 2006. His recent position before joining Estonian Air was the CFO and Member of the Management Board of AS Viisnurk.
